Born and raised in Jamaica W.I., Ms. Dahalia Beccan’s passion for education was sparked early by the legacy of the JAMAL movement—a national campaign to eradicate adult illiteracy. It wasn’t just a program; it was a call to action that shaped her teaching philosophy: every educator is a teacher of literacy, and every child carries immeasurable value.
With over 25 years of teaching experience and a Master’s in Mathematics, Ms. Beccan has spent her life closing academic gaps and opening doors of opportunity. After a decade of shaping young minds in Jamaica, she migrated to the U.S., where she continued her mission within the Catholic school system, quickly identifying a critical truth: struggles in math often begin with weak reading skills.
In 2010, she founded D.E.Bs Tutoring, later evolving into D.E.Bs LEARNING ACADEMY—a Bronx-based educational movement dedicated to transforming students’ lives “one score at a time.” Her unique diagnostic approach uncovers each student’s strengths and turns them into stepping stones for mastering literacy, numeracy, and confidence.
Today, D.E.Bs LEARNING ACADEMY offers high-impact Afterschool Programs, Saturday Academies, and Summer Camps designed to deliver more than just academic support. They offer safe spaces for students to grow, develop life skills, and access enriching opportunities often out of reach.
Ms. Beccan’s vision is bold: to become the leading afterschool academy in the hemisphere, offering value-centered, life-changing education that prepares every child—not just for school, but for life.

Reading Specialist & Literacy Coach
Jeffery Stone is a dedicated Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach with more than 25 years of experience supporting students, families, and educators in building strong literacy foundations. With a deep understanding of reading development and instructional practice, Jeffery designs programs that close learning gaps, improve comprehension, and nurture a lifelong love for reading.
His approach combines research-based strategies with creativity and empathy, helping every learner gain confidence and mastery. Known for his collaborative coaching style, Jeffery empowers teachers to implement effective literacy instruction and fosters school communities where reading is celebrated as both a skill and a source of joy.
At D.E.Bs Learning Academy, Jeffery continues to lead literacy initiatives that transform classrooms and inspire a culture of excellence in reading and learning.
Majorie Bennett, M.Ed.
Mathematics Specialist & Instructional Coach
Majorie Bennett is an experienced educator with more than 30 years of excellence in mathematics instruction, curriculum design, and teacher development. She is deeply committed to helping students build strong problem-solving skills and mathematical confidence through engaging, real-world learning experiences.
Known for her calm, encouraging presence, Majorie works closely with teachers and families to create supportive, growth-oriented classrooms. Her approach blends structure with creativity, ensuring that learners at all levels not only master essential math concepts but also discover the joy of exploration and critical thinking.
